Announcing upcoming changes to QuickBooks pricing + FAQs

On June 10, 2024, you received an email announcing upcoming pricing changes for QuickBooks products and services. Below are answers to common questions about these changes.


Q: Why are you increasing prices?




A: Our goal is to deliver an online, integrated platform that helps you and each of your clients succeedat every stage of your and your clients’ business journeys. The QuickBooks platform is designed to save you time and fuel your growth by streamlining workflows and giving you access to data so you can advise your clients and help them make more-informed business decisions. We are supercharging QuickBooks with the power of AI, through Intuit Assist and the automation of tasks, to help save you and your clients time and enable businesses to get paid faster.


We have also made improvements across core accounting workflows and within within QuickBooks Online Accountant. By adding document management capabilities and accountant-only views, our goal is to make it easier for you to view client transactions and app use. We also have several new and improved payroll-related features, such as a deeper integration between between QuickBooks Payroll and QuickBooks Time, advanced payroll cost allocation, bulk pay item management, an HR hub for employee record management, and benefits, including a new healthcare partnership healthcare partnership with Allstate Health Solutions.(Services sold separately. Additionally, we continue to make enhancements in QuickBooks Desktop and Payroll, such as industry-leading AES 256-bit encryption so that our customers’ sensitive financial information is better protected from increasing cyber threats; Search Functionality Enhancement to easily locate and edit lists for Payroll schedules, Price rules, Templates and all Customers and Vendor lists with keyword searches; and access to affordable 401(k) retirement plans that integrate with QuickBooks for a seamless experience from enrollment to management.

QuickBooks Online pricing

Q: What QuickBooks Online prices are changing?

A: Prices for QuickBooks Online Self-Employed, Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced subscription prices are changing on or after the dates shown below the table. QuickBooks Ledger pricing remains unchanged.

Q: When will the new QuickBooks Online prices go into effect?

A: QuickBooks Online Self-Employed, Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced subscription prices are changing on or after the date indicated below:

August 1, 2024

  • QuickBooks Online Self-Employed, Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced new subscriptions
  • QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced existing client-billed subscriptions


August 15, 2024

  • QuickBooks Online Self-Employed existing subscriptions


September 1, 2024

  • QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced existing accountant-billed subscriptions

Q: When will the QuickBooks Online price increase go into effect for customers who pay for their own subscriptions?

A: Price changes take effect on or after August 1, 2024. For clients who signed up for and started their subscription after February 1, 2024, they will retain their current price for six months after the start of their subscription date, after which the price will change.  


Q: When will the QuickBooks Online price increase go into effect for customers added through accountants?

A: The QuickBooks Online price increase will take effect on or after September 1, 2024 for customers added through QuickBooks Online Accountant. New accountant-billed clients who have signed up after March 1, 2024 will retain their current price until six months after the start of their subscription date, after which the price changes will go into effect. The price change will be reflected in the seventh month of the subscription. 


Q: What if I have promotional pricing for QuickBooks Online?

A: If you currently have an active promotional discount, your price will remain the same until the end of the promotion. When the promotion expires, the monthly subscription rate will be adjusted to match the price increase noted here.

Q: How will this price change affect me if my firm is enrolled in the ProAdvisor Preferred Pricing revenue share program? 

A: Revenue share payouts will reflect the price changes for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll. Your firm can still pass along a 50% discount for QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll to eligible clients for 3 months following a 30-day free trial period. Firms will also continue to receive 30% of the billed price on base fees for 12 months and 15% per employee fees for 12 months for QuickBooks Online Payroll. This applies to QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, Plus, and Advanced and QuickBooks Online Payroll Core and Premium. Q: What QuickBooks Online Payroll prices are changing?

A:  Base prices for QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite product and related per employee price changes are changing as shown in the chart below.

Q: When will the new QuickBooks Online Payroll price increases go into effect?

A: QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite will occur on or after the date indicated below:

August 1, 2024 

  • QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite new subscriptions
  • QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite client-billed subscriptions


September 1, 2024

  • QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Premium, and Elite accountant-billed subscriptions


Q: Are there any discount options for QuickBooks Online Payroll? 

A: ProAdvisor Preferred Pricing is available for QuickBooks Online Payroll. An additional discount of 10% (discount based on 12-months of the then-current monthly list price) is available when clients, who pay for their subscription, switch to annual billing. Go to “Billing and Subscriptions,” and select “Annual Billing.”

Q: What QuickBooks Desktop prices are changing?

A: QuickBooks Pro Plus, QuickBooks Mac Plus, and QuickBooks Premier Plus subscriptions are changing as shown in the chart below.

Q: When will the new QuickBooks Desktop prices go into effect?

A: QuickBooks Pro Plus, QuickBooks Mac Plus, and QuickBooks Premier Plus subscription prices are changing on or after October 1, 2024. The purchase of new QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Plus, and Mac subscriptions are only available for purchase until Sept. 30, 2024. Q: Can I still purchase QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions for new clients?

A: Neither accountants nor clients can buy new subscriptions of QuickBooks Desktop Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Mac Plus after September 30, 2024, although we will continue to to support existing subscriptions. Please note that we’ve heard your feedback and extended the original date of not selling several desktop products from July 31, 2024 to September 30, 2024. See details here


QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise will still be available for purchase.


Q: Can I renew a suspended QuickBooks Desktop Plus subscription?

A: Yes, you can renew your suspended QuickBooks Desktop Plus subscription. For any billing or payment issues, you are notified via email and Intuit provides a grace period of 30 days to renew after the final notice has been sent out.


Q: What QuickBooks Desktop Accountant prices are changing?

A: QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, QuickBooks Desktop, ProAdvisor Premier Bundle, and ProAdvisor Enterprise Bundle for new and existing subscriptions are changing as shown in the chart below.

Q: When will the new QuickBooks Desktop Accountant prices go into effect?

A: QuickBooks Desktop Accountant, QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise Accountant, ProAdvisor Premier Bundle, and ProAdvisor Enterprise Bundle for new and existing subscription prices are changing on or after October 1, 2024.


  • ProAdvisor Enterprise Bundle pricing with 12.5% and 20% discounts on new QuickBooks Enterprise subscriptions no longer applies
  • The discounts on existing QuickBooks Enterprise subscriptions purchased before October 1, 2024 will continue upon renewal, at this time. However, these discounts will no longer apply when modifications and changes are made to existing orders on or after October 1, 2024, as they result in new subscriptions.

Q: Why was the 20% discount on Enterprise taken away?

A: The new pricing structure reflects the value QuickBooks Enterprise provides and takes into account other offerings that are comparable in the marketplace. It also encourages businesses to evaluate both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop, determining which product is the right fit based on business needs. Terms and conditions, discounts, and pricing are subject to change without notice. 

Q: Will my existing Enterprise subscriptions lose the 20% discount when the subscription renews?

A: No. Existing subscriptions will renew with the 20% off MSRP. The Enterprise 20% discount will no longer be offered for new signups/subscriptions on and after October 1.

Q: Will we lose the 20T discount if we add a seat to or upgrade/downgrade an Enterprise subscription?

A: When modifications and changes are made to existing subscriptions on or after October 1, 2024, they will result in a new subscription and the 20% discount will no longer apply. 


  • Changing the number of seats in QuickBooks Enterprise will result in a new subscription, so the 20% discount will no longer apply.
  • Upgrading or downgrading to a different QuickBooks Enterprise SKU will result in a new subscription, so the 20% discount will no longer apply. 


Q: Why do modifications and changes, like adding seats or changing SKUs result in losing the discount? Isn't this a good thing?

A: Our approach is to set a pricing structure that reflects the value QuickBooks Enterprise delivers. 


Q: Can I renew a suspended Enterprise subscription?

A: A lapsed subscription renewed past the grace period is identified as a new subscription, so the 20% discount will not be available and will no longer apply.

QuickBooks Desktop Payroll pricing

Q: What QuickBooks Desktop Payroll prices are changing? 

A: QuickBooks Desktop Basic and Enhanced Payroll annual and monthly subscriptions, and per employee fees are changing as shown in the chart below.

A: Existing QuickBooks Desktop Basic and Enhanced Payroll annual and monthly subscriptions, and per employee fees are changing on or after October 1, 2024.


Q: What QuickBooks Desktop Payroll - Legacy Enhanced Unlimited and Limited prices are changing?

A: Prices are changing for QuickBooks Legacy Enhanced Payroll Unlimited and QuickBooks Legacy Enhanced Payroll Limited annual and monthly subscriptions, as well as new fees apply when paying W2 employees via direct deposit in QuickBooks Legacy Enhanced Payroll. Prices are changing as shown in the chart below.

  • $5 per transaction fee applies when paying W2 employees via direct deposit in QuickBooks Legacy Enhanced Unlimited and Limited

  • $5 per transaction fee applies when paying W2 employees via direct deposit in Enhanced Payroll for Accountants 
  • Because the employee direct deposit fee is billed directly to your clients, Intuit will send a 30-day notice to your impacted clients in December 2024, addressed to the primary principal’s email address on file

Q: What if I currently have an existing discount or promotion?

A: We will honor any special pricing through the duration of the promotion. Once the promotion ends, the relevant price increase will go into effect 


Q: How can I migrate from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online? Where can I learn more about migrating?

A: QuickBooks Online provides many benefits over desktop. Migration from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online or QuickBooks Online Advanced is easier than ever. We have an improved migration process that helps your clients discover the flexibility of QuickBooks Online faster. No need to start over againjust move your desktop file to a QuickBooks Online company. 


Q: My client needs a complex solution and isn’t ready for QuickBooks Online. What is the best option for them?
