Migration Corner: Moving from QuickBooks Desktop to QuickBooks Online—New QuickBooks Online App for Windows

There are so many good reasons for your clients to consider migrating to QuickBooks® Online. One key reason to start the conversation is to get ahead of the Desktop discontinuation. By May 2023, you’ll have clients using discontinued versions of QuickBooks Desktop (2020 version of QuickBooks Desktop Pro/Premier/Mac Outright and Desktop Plus, our subscription offering). With our migration resources, guides, and tips, you can easily help your clients make the move—with plenty of time to spare. We are excited to launch the new QuickBooks Online App for Windows.* This app allows clients to use the navigation they are familiar with from QuickBooks Desktop while they’re onboarding to QuickBooks Online.

With this app for their computers, your clients can make a seamless switch from QuickBooks Desktop by keeping all their favorite Desktop features. They’ll work how they’re used to, with a familiar menu and home screen. They can also keep information for multiple companies open at the same time, and work efficiently by flipping between tabs and windows, just like they would on QuickBooks Desktop. Plus, they can stay signed in and get to work faster. Watch the video below to see how the app works.

From identifying clients to onboarding them to Online, migration takes about three months. To make these transitions as smooth as possible, the QuickBooks Online Migration Toolkit breaks down the process and provides helpful resources for each month.

Month 1 helps you learn about the new and improved QuickBooks Online, and provides insight on how to build a list of clients that will benefit from migration. You’ll have resources on all the latest information about Online—the latest features, comparisons to Desktop, and how QuickBooks Online and third-party apps can answer clients’ specialized needs.

Month 2 gives clear, practical tips to help you prepare for client conversations about migration, because communicating about the move can sometimes be more challenging than the migration itself. In addition to shareable guides and insights, migration success stories are a confidence-boosting way to present the idea to clients.

For example, Bella Grace Paper, a woman-owned Louisiana-based business, seamlessly manages two stores with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Online Payroll. After migrating from QuickBooks Desktop, they’ve found it much easier to collaborate with their accountant, manage data, and grow their retail footprint. *QuickBooks Online app for Windows: The QuickBooks Online app for Windows (“app”) requires a Windows PC computer with a supported browser (see System Requirements for a list of supported browsers) and an Internet connection (high-speed recommended). The app is available for QuickBooks Desktop migrators with an active QuickBooks Online Simple Start, Essentials, Plus or Advanced subscription. Customers will need to download the app no later than December 31, 2022 or before 25,000 app downloads have been reached, whichever occurs first. App access will expire on December 31, 2023.
